About Happy Valley Racecourse
Happy Valley Racecourse is one of Hong Kong's most beloved institutions and a defining cultural landmark, located in the scenic valley at Sports Road in Happy Valley on Hong Kong Island. Horse racing has been held at this historic venue since 1846, making it one of the oldest racecourses in Asia and deeply embedded in Hong Kong's social and cultural fabric. The venue hosts night races every Wednesday evening from September through June — an iconic Hong Kong experience attracting both serious racing enthusiasts and visitors seeking the unique atmosphere of racing under floodlights surrounded by towering residential blocks. The Hong Kong Jockey Club, one of the world's largest racing organizations and a major philanthropic institution, operates Happy Valley alongside the larger Sha Tin Racecourse. The adjacent Happy Valley Racing Museum celebrates the history of the sport in Hong Kong. The racecourse is accessible via Happy Valley tram or MTR.
