Hong Kong Observatory

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) is a government department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, established in 1883. The Observatory provides weather forecasting and issues warnings for hazardous weather including typhoons, heavy rain, thunderstorms, landslips, flooding, and extreme temperatures. The Central Forecasting Office routinely issues local weather forecasts to the media, broadcasting tropical cyclone warning bulletins to the public, shipping, and aviation sectors. HKO also monitors and assesses radiation levels in Hong Kong and provides geophysical services to the shipping, aviation, industrial, and engineering sectors. With over a century of operation, the Hong Kong Observatory remains the authoritative source for weather information, climate data, and meteorological services in Hong Kong.
