Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge

About Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) is the world longest sea-crossing bridge, tunnel, and island system, spanning approximately 55 kilometres across the Pearl River Estuary. Opened in October 2018, the bridge connects Hong Kong, Zhuhai in Guangdong Province, and Macau, serving as a vital transport corridor for passenger and freight traffic. The Hong Kong section features a dedicated boundary crossing facility on Lantau Island, providing customs, immigration, and quarantine services. Shuttle buses serve as the primary transport mode, as private vehicles require special permits. The HZMB reduces travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai to approximately 45 minutes, supporting economic integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The bridge represents a landmark engineering achievement and a symbol of regional connectivity.
